CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS get published easy

Owl Creek  Media, our parent company, will be publishing short story and poetry anthologies beginning in 2009.  The first books will be assembled in spring 2009.  Each book has a theme and word limit.  Most are open only to published writers.  All are open to our contest winners and many are open to our official members (another advantage of joining as a member).  Always check the criteria and submission guidelines before submitting.  All books will also be open for art submissions for the cover art.

Submitting is currently free and those selected will receive one free copy, though purchase of at at least 10 copies at wholesale (50% discount) is required. 60% discount is given for single orders of 50 or more.  Read upcoming anthology guidelines.

F.A.Q.

Q) Why must I buy at least 10 copies at wholesale?

A) We are a small publisher and this site is about building community and in a community everyone takes equal responsibility for the success of the community.  Another big reason is, we only want to publish writers who have what it takes to make it in this business.  If you cannot sell at least 10 books that feature your writing, then you either lack the needed confidence in your work or the skills needed to make it. Most writers today must take responsibility for their own sales from day one.  Most don’t and that’s why 99% of books sell less than 5,000 copies.  One good book signing at your local book store, high school, or just friends and family should easily sell that many. Don’t overlook the fact you’d make app. $75 profit on the sale of just 10 books. We hope this system above all helps bring money to our creative community. This discount is in lieu of royalties which are minimum at best for anthologies as they are devided by 2 dozen people of more usually. We feel offering the 50% discount (most offer no wholesale discount or 20% max) will add up to much higher earnings for professional writers that sell their books at signings and other speaking appearances. There is no limit to the number of books you can buy at wholesale. Selling 50 books at one appearance is common.

We tend to republish more often those who can sell 200 or more books than those who only sell 10.  If you speak at schools, this is easy as each school will usually net sales of 40 to 80 books.  If not, set up at some local festivals, have your local papers do a story on you, and set up some signings at the 10 closest libraries and book stores.  If you do, you’ll most likely sell 50 to 150 copies just by doing this.

This also helps us publish 10 instead of say 2 anthologies per year, plus, your success is built upon by the other contributors who sell at least 10 copies. What we are doing here is getting about 25 (more for poetry) other people to go out and sell your work, giving you exposure throughout the entire country which could lead to a book contract or other opportunities.  Click Here to see the upcoming Anthology themes & guidelines.
