Title: CHRISTMAS IN NEW ENGLAND

Entries Due Date:   December 5, 2009

Book Specs:  208 pages (approximately), paperback 6” x 9”

WRITERS:

Length:  500-1,200 words for essays or prose /12-32 lines for poetry

Guidelines:  Christmas poems of a secular nature, though mentions of church services etc fine, or winter imagery (Winter Wonderland).  Prose, short stories about the holiday which clearly take place in New England. Essays, about life in New England during the holidays, past or present. Over all, we are looking to make people feel as if they have experienced Christmas in New England, so the more details about the area or things and customs that are uniques to the area would be great additions. Currier & Ives, Norman Rockwell type scenes are especially preferred, though bittersweet reality not shunned.

Target:  All families, gift stores, hospitals, kids and adults.  Sentimental poems fine. Funny poems fine, lessons of giving and charity and the Christmas spirit fine.  The words Christmas and Yule are fine, Santa Claus fine.

Title: CREEPY CAMPFIRE TALES - CAMPERS TELL ALL

Entries Due Date:   MAY 5, 2009

Open To:  Everyone, including Published & unpublished poets, writers, Owl Creek Arts Center official members , and all contest and award winners, and all current contest entrants.

Book Specs:  208 pages (approximately), paperback 6” x 9”

WRITERS:

Length:  500-1,200 words for ORIGINAL prose /12-32 lines for poetry

Guidelines:  These must be all original scary stories, and must take place at a campground, cabin, lake, or around a campfire in woods. No swear words or sex, any death should be portrayed minimally and tastefully. DO NOT send rehashes of Friday The 13th, Saw, other slasher flicks. Only tales with characters in believable situations, doing logical things will be used. We prefer a tragic end or haunting one. NO “it was all just a dream” stories. Teens or park rangers should be main characters in story. Make us feel like we are camping. Night time should be bulk of story time. These books are smart enough for adults, but tasteful enough for 10 year olds. Don’t use real people or real campground names.

Target:  All families, teens camping at state campgrounds, gift stores, hospitals, kids and adults.  Funny poems fine, but looking for creepy work mostly.
